Oka-chin

Oka-chin was one my best friends at Seikei School. He was kind of a swarthy good-looking boy. As a matter of fact he wanted to look like Troy Donahue, an American movie actor who starred in "Surf Side Six." I once visited his house in Kichijoji. Oka-chin said, "Hey Kinko (my nickname), you're always welcome. But don't wear an Aloha shirt when you come to see me." At that time
Aloha shirts were in fashion, but only Yakusa wore them.
His mother was an amicable person who came from Shizuoka Prefecture. Oka-chin often said that people in Shizuoka are good-natured because of the warm weather throughout the year.
His father's profession was related with management of movie theaters. Thanks to Oka-chin he took me to various movie theaters in Tokyo. I was able to see a lot of movies for free.
Firstly, we hanged around in the neighborhood of Shinjuku 3 Chome near Isetan Department Store. Then we went to see the movie entitled "Chushingura(忠臣蔵)".
Secondly, we were roaming across the Kabukicho area for instance we wandered about Shinjuku
Koma Theater, Sukara-za and Chikyu-za. We ended up seeing so to speak "Roman Porn" movies (no hard- core porn)  at Chikyu-za.
It was mind-boggling to watch the scene of our Seikei School's gate which appeared in the background of the screen.
Thirdly, we went to Sukiyabashi Center in Ginza. When we dropped in a bookstore, Oka-chin poked at me and pointed at a small guy who was thumbing through a magazine. He tunred out to be Tani Kei,  a member of "Crazy Cats." That was the first time I have ever seen a TV personality in person.
We also went to to Tokyu Cultural Center in Shibuya to see the movie, entitled "When September comes." starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day.
We didn't see each other after graduating from high school.
In the course of time I joined Teijin in Osaka whereas Oka-chin entered Mitsubishi Trading Co. in Tokyo.
Soon he married a rich young woman and lived comfortably in his wife's condo in Akasaka.
Meanwhile he was transferred to a representative office in Fukuoka, Kyushu in the late 1970s.
As for me one of my customers was a company named Sakata Inc. headquartered in Osaka. The company had many branch offices all over Japan. I had an opportunity to visit Sakata Inc.'s representative office in Fukuoka.
I met Oka-chin at a coffee shop near his representaive office.
In April 2003 I attended a class reunion of junior high school. I was happy to see Oka-chin again.
In September I decided to retire from Teijin in Saitama due to a 55-Year-Old-Point-Interview. Teijin was under restructuring. The top brass wanted to ax high-paid old  salariedmen who achieved nothing.
Oka-chin called me and invited me to another class-reunion of elementary school.
Unfortunately I was leaving Saitama for Osaka. It was a shame that I had to decline his offer. Since Oka-chin used to be a good friend of mine, I'd like to see him again if I have a chance.
